Attorney / Founding Partner
As the senior founding partner, John has devoted 25 years to creating a trial litigation firm that is known for its professionalism, responsiveness and success in and out of the courtroom. Both within the firm and outside of it, John fosters a culture where attorneys are accountable and loyal to their colleagues and their clients. As a result, this is a close-knit firm where staff turnover is practically nonexistent and client relationships last for years.
John brings a unique perspective to the firm. After law school, he worked as an FBI Agent and then as Deputy Nassau County Attorney. He then moved into private practice starting his own firm. In 1991, he and his then associate, Frank Scahill became partners. His significant investigative and trial skills have been instrumental to the success of the firm’s insurance defense practice. A former Associate Professor at 2 colleges, John is also a natural teacher who gives practical advice, guidance and insights to the firm’s attorneys to ensure they provide the best service to clients. Part of his role at the firm is training and encouraging new lawyers. He tries to instill in each one the need to be original and innovative, to develop good trial instincts and to keep up with technology. Thinking outside the box is a key skill that he stresses for all litigators.
The firm began as 2 attorneys and is now at 35 attorneys and over 60 support staff. It is a source of pride for John even though he did not expect or plan for it when he started the firm. It has been a natural expansion over time as the firm’s reputation and relationships have grown.
An accomplished lawyer, John has focused on the defense of automobile and premises liability claims and dental and medical malpractice. He also has handled insurance coverage and fraud investigations where his prior FBI and County Attorney experience makes him particularly adept at uncovering the truth.
John has 3 children and 3 grandchildren. He enjoys golf, sailing and deep sea fishing. A novelist in his downtime, he published his first book, Liam’s Promise (see Amazon.com’s booklist), in 2015 and has a second book in the works.
